Feel Great – Be a Blood Donor on June 23, 2011

When does it feel great to donate something most people have to spare; receive a coupon for a free 24-pack of Pure Spring Water plus a coupon for up to 20% off, both redeemable at participating Walgreens (MA, ME, NH, RI, and VT); get free juice and cookies; be someone’s hero, and in just one donation, help as many as three people?”

Well, it’s June, so I must be talking about VY’s Annual Red Cross Blood drive. This year’s date is June 23, 2011, from noon to 5 p.m. in the Vernon Elementary School cafeteria. Our goal this year is 42 units of blood.

In addition to this being an annual event at VY, we are also supporting the NEI “Energy for Life” campaign. Since NEI began the program in 2001, the nuclear industry has collected more than 30,000 units of blood for local communities. The blood drive is coordinated through the American Red Cross and America’s Blood Centers.  All that you need to know about being a blood donor is provided on their web sites. One quick reminder: In order to donate, it needs to have been at least 56 days since your last donation.

Friends, family and general public donors can sign up via Facebook and Twitter. In either case, walk-in donors are always welcome.
